Interview #2

The next set of people were Micah Henry and Cameron Hinton. These students attend school with me and are also seniors. It was interesting interviewing the both of them because they had interesting things to say.

Here is what Cameron Hinton had to say:

Where do you live Cameron? I live in West Philly, right off of City line avenue. I feel that I fit in my environment, but it`s majority of black people. The worst part of my neighborhood would be that a lot of blacks from down the street come to my neighborhood, but does not make it very bad. One thing I like about my neighborhood, is that when my grandmother died, we all came together as one.

In philly a man should be street smart and be able to handle his own. Also they should know what they want in life. There was one time when I felt like I had to be a man when I was at home and I had to take care of my mom and sister. Sometimes being a man can be a disadvantage because society tells men they need to be tough and hold their own. It can be an advantage when men have an upper hand on many standards.

Here is what Micah Henry had to say:

Growing up in West Philadelphia was a struggle for me. I lived with many siblings and the attention was not always on me. I liked our neighborhood because we lived near the park where I could bring my little siblings to. As a young boy I was taught to take care of  my family because that`s what a man did. I think that made sense, but then again a women can take care of a family, but they can`t teach a boy how to be a man, only his father can do that. As a black boy, I remember my mom telling me not to wear my hoodie at night because, she wouldn`t want me to be on the news about another black boy killed by the police. I think that is what defines blacks in America. Although I never had to go through this, I know many people that did.
